Over 50% of London’s 14,700 black taxis are now actively contributing to cleaning up London’s air, says the London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) who have, under different names*, been building London’s black cabs since 1908.

Their electric TX model has been on sale since January 2018 and can now be seen in large numbers, not just in London, but also in the UK and overseas.

Alex Nan, CEO of LEVC, commented: “With more than half the black cabs on London’s streets now electric, thanks to the iconic TX, today represents another momentous milestone for LEVC. We would like to thank London’s famous black cab drivers, who have been instrumental in this achievement.”

The six-seat TX is a plug-in hybrid vehicle with a pure EV range of 78.1 miles, and a total range-extended range of 333.3 miles (using the petrol generator). It is an accessible vehicle with an integrated wheelchair ramp enabling the TX to accommodate a forward-facing wheelchair.

NB. Note the carefully worded headline and first paragraph. “Zero-emission capable” and “contributing to cleaning up” relate to the TX being a hybrid. It’s not zero-emission when on extended range.
