Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) have announced an agreement with the Italian shipbuilder, Fincantieri S.p.A., to build their next generation ships.
Four 140,000 gross ton cruise ships, each carrying around 3,300 guests, are on order for delivery in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, with an option for two additional ships to be delivered in 2026 and 2027. The contract price for each of the four vessels is approximately €800 million per ship.
Over the next few years NCL will drip feed us details of the attributes and facilities of the new class of ships, but we do know they will build on the freestyle cruising format of their Breakaway-Plus Class ships and that a priority of the design is energy efficiency, with the aim of optimizing fuel consumption and reducing the impact on the environment.
NCL has developed a reputation for being innovative with its technical design and its guest experiences. For example, its latest ship, Norwegian Joy, just leaving the shipyard now and due to become operational from its home port in China this summer, houses the world’s first car race track on a cruise ship. So we can safely assume these new ships will have some spectacular features too!

As gorgeous as its looks I still have to be convinced that its a great way to holiday? To me its seems like a coach holiday for 3,000 people !
Well, I hear what you say, and agree when it comes to most cruise lines (‘British’ brands esp). That said, Norwegian is one of my prefered lines. And I think you’d love some small specialist cruise lines, like Star Clippers to mention no names.
