A Room with a View

I love a good view from a hotel window or balcony, but I especially love interesting views where you can watch activity – on the street, in the harbour, on the ski slope, etc.

This is a great view for a geek like me.

It’s from our window on the top (5th) floor of the Mercure Lyon Centre Château Perrache overlooking Gare de Lyon-Perrache.

Sadly we were only there for one night, a Saturday so the weekend rail traffic was a bit thin, but what’s not to like!

The hotel is a fabulous grand old railway hotel (listed Art Nouveau), renovated only 2 years ago. The station was built in 1855 by Alexis Cendrier for the Chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée.

Declaration – Hotel & transport all paid for by me. No upgrades, no favours.
2nd Declaration – I was, momentarily, tempted to title this “A Room with a Choo” but sub-editors – who don’t work for the Sun – have their bits chopped off for less!
