Rise & Fall of Napoleon - With Ridley Scott's Napoleon now in cinemas, Kirker Holidays have a 7-night expert-guided tour (Hugh Macdonald-Buchanan) visiting the sights of the French Revolution in and around Paris, including a private tour of Versailles, a visit to the Picpus Cemetery (the only private cemetery in Paris) where 1,300 beheaded victims were flung en masse into two pits; and the Conciergerie, ancient palace of the mediaeval monarchs, used as a prison during The Terror, and Waterloo in Belgium, site of Napoleon's downfall. Departing 22 April 2024, this tour costs from £3,998 pp (two sharing), including return Eurostar, train travel from Paris to Brussels, accommodation with breakfast, four dinners, two lunches, all sightseeing, entrance fees and gratuities, and the services of the Kirker Tour Lecturer. History & Future of Space Exploration - New Scientist Discovery Tours is planning a 12-day tour of the USA in 2024, visiting the Four NASA space centres – Kennedy, Houston, Johnson and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Virgin Galactic's Spaceport America, The Very Large Array, Caltech, Hale Solar Laboratory and the Wilson Observatory. During the tour, which starts in Washington DC and ends in California, there will be lectures by space experts and scientists. The tour has a day-by-day schedule, but as yet there is no all-important departure date nor price. You can register your interest though. (Updated: 20/10/2023)

Commando Operations of WW2 Tour - Leger Holidays have a 7-day expert-guided coach tour in France, focusing on Dieppe (Operation Jubilee), St. Nazaire (Operation Chariot* & the U-boat pens*), Lorient (U-boat pens) & Normandy (Pointe du Hoc* & Maisy Battery*), also British Commando areas from Sword Beach to Amfreville, and there's a visit to the French National Tank Museum* in Saumur. (* I have written about these) The price, from £889pp (based on 2 sharing), includes two nights each in a minimum 3-star hotel with continental breakfast, in Rouen, St. Nazaire, and Caen. The Gallipoli Campaign - The Cultural Experience have a 9-day, expert guided tour focusing on the British & ANZAC landings at Cape Helles & Sulva Bay, and including Plugge's Plateau, Gully Ravine, the naval museum & Turkish gun positions at Ephez, and a spinoff trip to the ruins of Troy. The tour is guided by expert historian, Dr Bruce Cherry, and will run from 1st to 9th May 2024. Prices start from £2,550pp (£2,875 inc return flights from London) and include air-conditioned coach travel, 4 star hotel, buffet breakfast, dinner parties with drinks & all entrance fees.
